Ceremonial Partisan
France, early 17th century
Iron Length: 62 cm – Blade: 14 cm - Total Length: 255 cm
156 CH
€8,000/€12,000
Ceremonial partisan in iron with four tines and a central ridge, with the lower part of the blade and the socket adorned with a splendid fully gilded chiseled decoration. On each side of the blade, the decoration features two superimposed medallions surrounding ancient-style horsemen (similar but not completely identical on both sides). The rest is filled with a decoration of vegetal scrolls inhabited by human and animal figures, monsters, and other grotesques, unique on each side. The knuckle and the conical socket are decorated with vegetal scrolls and acanthus leaves. The hook is in the shape of a dragon-serpent with a raised head and coiled tail, with its body seemingly passing through the socket. The iron is mounted on a 19th-century wooden shaft embellished with nails, adorned with a silk tassel and metallic threads.
Good condition, general wear to the gilding.
