Of the so-called three-cornered shape, front part height 14 cm, back part height 22.5 cm, made of waterproof felt, bordered on each side of the corners with a 2.7 cm wide silver braid woven in Hungarian point. Flat trimmings measuring 3.8 cm wide, with a 4 mm black stripe in its center, ending in a point, approximately 13.5 cm in length. Cockade in tricolor colors, diameter 7.5 cm. Uniform button in silvered metal stamped with an uncrowned imperial eagle and the inscription "IMPERIAL GENDARMERIE - PUBLIC SAFETY." Interior lining composed of black waxed sheepskin topped with a black silk cap. In the upper part inside, two black lacquered metal clasps are intended to receive a chinstrap.
