In garance wool, lined with dark blue, almost black cloth, with a white canvas label marked with black ink "53" (regiment number), registered "3044" and dated from the 2nd quarter of 1870 "2e 70."

Good condition, partial absence of cloth lining.
HISTORY:
The 53rd infantry regiment was stationed in Auxerrre in 1856, then from 1858 to 1860 in Lons le Saunier. In 1859, it was part of the Italian expedition where it was engaged on June 24, 1859, at the Battle of Solferino. Returning to Besançon from 1861 to 1862, it was stationed in Givet in 1863, with one battalion in Reims. It fought in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, and on September 1, 1870, it was engaged in the Battle of Sedan.
