FIREFIGHTER HELMET OF DMC (DOLLFUS-MIEG COMPANY), type 1895, Third Republic. 24538
Helmet entirely made of brass. Crest with prominent moldings decorated at the front with a grenade flanked on either side by a hole for attaching the frontal lamp, fixed by an internal screw. Front plate made of stamped and cut brass with the initials "DMC". Tubular-shaped plume holder with a slightly squared section decreasing towards the bottom. Brown leather chinstrap. Interior lining made of ochre calf leather cut with eight tongue-shaped pieces, ink stamp "56" and handwritten inscription of the owner's name, Spizzo Léonard.

Good condition, slight dents on the crest and bomb, older lining replaced at a later date.

Dollfus-Mieg and Company (abbreviated to DMC) is a French textile company established in Mulhouse in 1746 by Jean-Henri Dollfus. In the 20th century, it became one of the largest textile and industrial groups in Europe. Its owners were clients and shareholders of the Ronchamp coal mines.
Listed on the Paris stock exchange since 1922, it merged with the Lille-based company Thiriez and Cartier-Bresson in 1961. After going through a crisis in the 1990s, the former company was liquidated in 2009. A new entity was created in 2019.
