NOTE:
Hutchinson is a French multinational group known for being the third largest manufacturer of non-pneumatic rubber worldwide. It was founded in 1853 by Hiram Hutchinson in Châlette-sur-Loing, France.
The Group manufactures a range of rubber products, such as Aigle boots. Over the years, Hutchinson has become a major player in the mobility industry, holding a significant position in the automotive, aerospace, defense, and cycling sectors. The company places great emphasis on developing innovative products, scientific research, and promoting sustainable practices.
Hiram Hutchinson is a North American industrialist of British origin. He settled in France in 1853 after obtaining the exclusive patent from Charles Goodyear regarding improvements to the making of rubber boots and shoes. That same year, he founded the Hutchinson company. He set up the factory, initially named La Compagnie du Caoutchouc Souple, in the town of Châlette-sur-Loing, near Montargis.
In 1860, Hutchinson began its internationalization with its third plant in Mannheim, Germany, to supply the markets of Central Europe.
Hiram Hutchinson, who had already entrusted the company's management to his son Alcander in 1854, returned to the United States in 1867, at which time the latter renamed the company to A. Hutchinson & Company (A for Alcander). The company name and brand were later simplified to "Hutchinson" and "Aigle," respectively. In the early years, Hutchinson had boots manufactured. This production legacy is carried on by Aigle, a specialist in high-quality rubber boots.
Upon returning to the States, Hutchinson sought other applications for rubber. The results of his studies led to a variety of products manufactured today by the Group.
In the 1900s, Hutchinson diversified its activities by manufacturing tires and started producing coated fabrics for airplanes and airships. The company also expanded into other areas: automobiles, heavy vehicles, clothing, belts, etc.
