BELT OF THE 2nd REGIMENT OF CUIRASSIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD based on the model of October 7, 1845, as reiterated by the regulations of June 21, 1856. 27052.
Made of white buffalo leather stitched along the edges and on the edges of the billets with a protruding rush, it consists of a belt band, 6.5 cm wide, and a length for the size 3 of 85 cm. The ends are cut in a square shape. The front end, on the strong side of the buffalo leather, is doubled back through the opening of a copper buckle where it is secured by a rectangular bar (called a mobile latch) on the buckle, allowing the belt band to be lengthened or shortened at will without any buckle, solely through the pressure of the latch. The end of the band is folded over by about 2.5 cm and sewn to form a ridge that prevents it from slipping out of the buckle. The other end of the band is also doubled back through the socket of the plate. Near the anterior end by 13 cm, there is a first strip of 3.5 cm wide and covering the full width of the band, inside which it is sewn with two stitches at the top and two at the bottom, another strip is sewn at 34 cm. It supports the copper D that carries the front billet; it is folded back underneath by 3 cm after embracing the D which, in its upper part, aligns with the bottom of the band. This D has an actual width of 4.5 cm (although the regulation specifies 5 cm) and a height of 2 cm. It is about 5 mm thick and carries a sword hook of the same brass wire. Length of the hook's shank is 4 cm, and the same for the beak is 5 cm. The small billet, 35 cm in length, 3 cm wide, stamped with "1856". The large billet, 85 cm in length, 3.5 cm wide, stamped with "56" (1856), "2e Cs" under a crown (2nd regiment of cuirassiers), numbered "1336" and renumbered "142". Each end has two buttonholes 5 cm apart. Copper double buttons (diameter 1.5 cm) fit into these buttonholes in pairs to secure the billets to the belt and the sword. Copper plate slightly curved, embossed in relief with a grenade. It is nearly square, with chamfered cut edges. Attached to its right edge, as viewed from the inside, is a strong copper socket, and on the other side, a reused clasp at its base, stamped "HOULET". This clasp runs the entire length of the clasp attached at the other end of the band. Height 7.5 cm, width 8.5 cm, with rounded corners.
