Large goblet offered by Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie to the Duchamp family from Lyon, Second Empire, 1869.

Vermeil goblet, hallmarked on the base with the Boyer-Callot mark, Paris (France), circa 1869. Goblet-shaped with a slightly flared neck, entirely engraved with floral reserves, one of which bears the initials of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie "E N" under an imperial crown.
Presented in its wooden case covered in black leather, the lid is gold-tooled with the initials "N E" surmounted by the imperial crown, brass clasp, interior lined with white satin and velvet.
Height: 9.3 cm; Diameter: 8.3 cm; Weight: 144 g.
France.
Second Empire.
Very good condition, missing the sugar spoon.
900/1200
Provenance: Duchamp family, sold by Master Chenu-Scrive, sale in Lyon, December 14, 1999, lot no. 164.
History: The Emperor decided to be the godfather and the Empress the godmother of all legitimate children born on the same day, March 16, 1856.
A vermeil water glass was sometimes offered by Empress Eugénie during her trips in the province to commemorate this bond. These glasses were of two types: either goblet-shaped (goblet) or, more rarely, with a stem.
A vermeil footed glass, engraved with the same decorations, was offered by Count d'Abel de Malibran to the Paris Army Museum; it was published in the Review of the Friends of the Army Museum Society, 1963 supplement, pp. 8-9.
This goblet was offered to the Duchamp family by Empress Eugénie and the Prince Imperial during their stay in Lyon, from August 24 to 26, 1869, while they were traveling to Corsica to celebrate the Centenary of the birth of Emperor Napoleon I (1769-1821).
