Made of black waxed leather, reinforced in the upper part with a leather band (width 1.5 cm), a similar borderline (width 2 cm), and on each side with two V-shaped leather bands (width 2 cm) sewn in. Square-shaped visor made of black waxed leather, green waxed interior, width 3.8 cm.
Golden brass plate embossed with the crowned imperial eagle, placed on a globe cut with the number "102" with a gleaming lightning bolt, H 12.5 cm, width 9.5 cm. Tricolor lacquered metal cockade, diameter 5.3 cm.
Interior cap made of black basane leather gilded on its outer edge and scarlet silk with a crown lined with gilded scarlet calf leather engraved with "Equipemens Militaires Mel SPIQUEL & Cie 164 RUE St HONORÉ PARIS."
Height of the shako at the front 13 cm, at the back 19 cm.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
Second Empire
A decree on May 2, 1859, reestablished the 102nd line infantry regiment, formed like the other regiments with 4 battalions including 3 combat battalions with 6 companies, among which 2 were elite companies and a depot with 6 rifle companies. The 102nd had its 24 companies provided by the 5th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 31st, etc. infantry regiments.
In 1860, the 102nd participated in the campaign in China and engaged in various battles. It took part in the capture of Peiho forts on August 21, the Battle of Zhangjiawan on September 18, and the looting of the Summer Palace in Beijing in October 1860. The regiment reached Tianjin on November 6 and the 1st battalion was sent to Shanghai in May 1861. Disembarked in Toulon on February 17, 1862, the regiment was disbanded on April 1 of the same year.
