Gilt brass hilt. Four-branched guard forming a pierced side shell with palmettes. Crossguard also pierced. Straight quillon coiling upon itself. Cap with short tail cut into festoons, similar to the officer swords of the French marshalcy. Handle entirely filigreed brass on wood. Ferrule decorated with lines. Slightly curved blade with grooves, 87.9 cm long, engraved and gilded on each side and on its first third with a crown, the face of the radiant sun, the Arms of France, military trophies, and hammered inscriptions, as well as the fleur-de-lis of the crown and the Arms of France, all on a blued background; signed at the heel "Félix De Pressolle Among the arms and army of the troops (XX) in Paris". Scarlet cloth knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilt brass fittings, decorated with lines, scalloped edges; throat with button for wearing on belt, tip with steel blade.

Good condition. Hilt retaining its gilt. Cap and grip changed at a later date not to the original model. Blade modified during the Revolution by removal of royal inscriptions and emblems, later gilt and bluing. The two lower fittings of the scabbard are later additions.
