SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER BY DUPERRÉ, General Maritime Prefect, giving instructions to Enseigne de Vaisseau DAVID, commanding La Mouche, Toulon June 3, 1815. 18906-35
The general Maritime Prefect of the 6th district gives instructions to go on board to pick up Princess Pauline in Livorno:
"… Enseigne de vaisseau DAVID, commanding La Mouche, under the orders of Captain Vau Duranteau, commanding fgte La Rancune... will comply with the orders given by his superior officers... the purpose of his mission is to travel to the coasts of Tuscany, to try to land in Livorno where his frigate is to pick up H.S.H. Princess Pauline... We must be prepared at any moment to see hostilities begin, despite the hostile aggression committed by the English on the frigate La Melpomène, our other vessels have not yet experienced any insults... one must approach Livorno cautiously, as entry may not be permitted to the French... Lest the enemy possess our recognition signals, the warships of the Toulon post must, after exchanging signals from the ministerial table, add the following signal * to these instructions"

1 1/2 oblong page, with a round black ink stamp "MARINE AND COLONES VIe ARRONDISSEMENT (TOULON)".
In fairly good condition, fold marks, foxing, edges with minor tears.
BIOGRAPHY:
Baron Victor Guy DUPERRÉ, born in La Rochelle on February 20, 1775, and died in Paris on November 2, 1846, was a French naval officer of the 18th and 19th centuries, Admiral of France in 1830, Peer of France in 1830, and Minister of Marine and Colonies from 1834 to 1836.
[...] Maritime Prefect of Toulon during the Hundred Days in 1815, he was put on inactive duty during the second Restoration, but recalled to service in 1818. Promoted to Rear-Admiral, he held the position of commander of the naval station in the Antilles between 1819 and 1821. During the Spanish War of 1823, he commanded the squadron responsible for blockading Cadiz before being promoted to Vice-Admiral in October 1823. He was appointed Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor and Commander of the Order of Saint-Louis in 1824. He was appointed inspector of the 5th military district, then sent to Brest as Maritime Prefect (1827).
