The enemy army that had crossed the Seine at Pont and Nogent, upon learning that the Emperor, in control of Reims and Châlons, was advancing on their rear, began its retreat on the 17th, and on the 19th, it removed the bridges it had laid at Pont, Nogent, and Arcis-sur-Aube.
