SIGNED LETTER FROM COUNT PLATOV ADDRESSED TO "YOUR ROYAL HIGHNESS," Paris, April 19, 1814. 18906-38
Rare signature of Count Platov. Tasked with opposing the invasion of the French during the 1812 Russian campaign and defending Moscow, he took part in the Campaign of France in 1814 by leading the Cossack troops for the allied sovereigns. In the letter, he seeks recognition from the French Crown for the merits of his troops: "The high favors bestowed by His Majesty the King on several Russian officers, authorize me to take the liberty of bringing to the attention of Your Royal Highness some officers of my corps who have distinguished themselves particularly during the campaign" (sic).

It is believed that Platov is addressing the brother of King Louis XVIII, the future Charles X.

PLATOV (1765-1818), Count and General Hetman of the Cossacks.
Matvei Ivanovich Platov (Russian: Матве́й Ива́нович Пла́тов), born on August 8, 1753 (August 19 in the Gregorian calendar) in Starocherkasskaya (Russia) and died on January 3, 1818 (January 15 in the Gregorian calendar) in Taganrog (Russia), was a Russian general.
He was made a count of the Empire for his actions during the retreat of Napoleon's armies from Russia.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
During the 1812 campaign, Count Platov, Hetman of the Don Cossacks, received from the Czar, whom he had managed to gain full trust, the general command of the irregular cavalry, responsible for harassing the Grande Armée. He commanded up to thirty regiments of Cossacks.
