STRONG CAVALRY SWORD FROM THE WARS OF THE LEAGUE OF AUGSBURG AND THE WAR OF THE SPANISH SUCCESSION, Ancient Monarchy, 1688-1713. Item reference number 28790.
Iron hilt. Multi-branch guard. Octagonal pyramid-shaped pommel. Handle carved in a bias-cut wooden grip. Steel ferrules decorated with lines. Fine 99 cm long blade, straight with flat sides and a central groove engraved on the reverse side "CONRADT BRACH IN SOLINGEN," and on the obverse side an inscription that is difficult to read, likely in Latin.
France.
Ancient Monarchy.
Good condition, usual oxidation on the blade, no scabbard.
NOTE:
This type of strong sword can be compared to the specimens produced by Nonier in Besançon for the French cavalry around 1688-1713, when the cavalrymen preferred to use these outdated models rather than the 1680 model with a brass hilt.
