FIREFIGHTER HELMET OF THE CITY OF LYON SAPPERS, type 1885 modified 1895, Third Republic. 24544
Helmet entirely in brass. Crest with prominent moldings decorated on the front with a grenade, secured by an internal screw in place of the three winged screws, the locations of which are visible under the dome. Front plate in embossed brass with the coat of arms of the city of Lyon in the July 1831 model (gules a lion argent a chief azure charged with three stars or), surrounded by a branch of oak and laurel and a ribbon bearing the inscription "SAPEURS POMPIERS DE LYON". Black leather chinstrap. Tubular plume holder with a slightly decreasing square section downwards.

Very good condition, missing the interior liner, worn chinstrap.
NOTE:
The coat of arms on this helmet is that adopted in 1831 following the July Revolution of 1830 when the city abandoned the fleur-de-lis and replaced them with unmarked stars devoid of monarchic symbolism. From 1848 to the present day, the fleur-de-lis have once again appeared on the emblem, however, they are not used on this helmet.
