NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, First Empire. 30302
Gilt bronze hilt. Keyboard molded in relief of an imperial eagle perched on a naval anchor against a backdrop of bundles of flags and branches of oak and laurel. Pommel decorated with the shining thunderbolt of Jupiter. Handle with bone grips and gilt brass side edges. Brass ferrule. Triangular blade engraved and gilded on its first third with floral and military trophies against a blued background, length 82.7 cm. Black varnished leather scabbard with two gilt brass fittings, chape with button for wearing on the belt.

Fair condition, post-repaired bone grips, repairs to the grip and pommel, the imperial eagle on the keyboard was hammered during the Restoration and covered by a riveted emblem (likely the Arms of France), emblem removed for the Hundred Days period, blade in very good condition, leather scabbard in poor condition with damage and repairs.
