NAVAL SENIOR OFFICER'S SABRE, Third Republic. 30435

Gilt brass hilt. Guard with two branches forming a shell at the front, decorated and pierced with a navy anchor on a background of reeds and oak leaves. Cap with a long tail decorated with floral motifs. Ebony handle with silver filigree. Slightly curved white blade with double grooves, convex back edge, length 67.5 cm. Scarlet cloth knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with three richly decorated gilt brass fittings with foliage motifs, central fitting with a ring for suspension, scabbard tip with a gilt brass chape.

Fair condition, gilt worn off, small chip on the grip, traces of oxidation on the blade, varnish on scabbard with some chipping and creases at the bottom, sword from a family estate never cleaned.
