NOTE:
Christian Blondieau's work "Shako plates, chapka plates, fur caps... Part 2: the fleur-de-lis, the rooster, the eagle 1814-1870" explains that "at that time, the royal gendarmerie wore a hat and a white cockade held by a cord, with the elite gendarmerie wearing a helmet. Only the gendarmerie of Corsica wore a black felt shako with a silver metal plate marked 'royal gendarmerie' on a base."
However, at the Gendarmerie Museum in Melun, there is a copper plate of the "rifleman" type of the royal guard with a base band bearing the stamped legend "royal gendarmerie." This model is attributed to the gendarmerie of the Seine.
This is a plate of which there are very few authentic examples, the vast majority being either replicas or galvanoplasties.
