BIOGRAPHY:
Denis DECRÈS, born on June 18, 1761 in Chaumont (Haute-Marne) and died on December 7, 1820 in Paris, was a naval officer and politician during the Consulate and the First Empire.
Prefect maritime in Lorient, he became Minister of the Navy from 1801 to 1814, Vice-Admiral, senator, Grand Officer and head of the 10th cohort of the Legion of Honor in 1804, Inspector General of the Mediterranean Coast, Grand Cordon of the Legion of Honor in 1805, Grand Officer of the Empire in 1806, Count and then Duke in 1813. He died in Paris on December 7, 1820, from injuries sustained during the criminal arson of his residence.
