ARÇON PISTOL FOR CAVALRY AND DRAGOONS, model 1733, transferred to the Navy on the ship "L'Intrépide", Old Monarchy (around 1740-1741). 30411
Pan barrel equipped with its iron sighting notch and left side engraved on the breech with the crowned royal monogram used by the gunner-musketeer (Jean-Baptiste) FRECONNET on duty in 1740 and 41. The top of the breech displays in large cursive letters the name of the 74-gun ship "L’INTREPIDE" (74-gun ship launched in Brest in 1747 and destroyed by accidental fire in Saint Domingue in 1781), demonstrating that the weapon was transferred to the navy at an undetermined date.
Walnut stock discreetly decorated, all polished brass fittings: buttoned cap, trigger guard, counterplate, and molded ramrod pipes, no reinforcement at the end of the barrel. Square lock plate engraved in small capitals with the name of the Saint-Étienne entrepreneur (Jacques) DUCHON on duty during the years 1724-29-40 and 41 at the royal Saint Etienne factory, with the stamped crowned "S.E" hallmark above. The interior of the lock plate reveals the trace of the name of the lockmaker "JEAN.LAVN… ?". The belt hook attests to its service at sea. Wooden ramrod with steel tip.
