OFFICER'S UNIFORM OF THE GARDES DU CORPS DE LA MAISON MILITAIRE DU ROI, model 1814, Restoration period. 30008
Uniform in royal blue broadcloth with a straight front closure secured by 19 metal hooks and eyes.
Scarlet lapels richly embroidered on both sides with 7 wide buttonholes in silver threads, bullion, and sequins (length 9.9 cm, height 4.8 cm) bordered on the outer edge by a uniform button in silver-plated copper embossed with the face of the Sun on a radiant background (diameter 1.8 cm). These decorative buttonholes feature a V-shaped silver thread braid with a central bar composed of sequins and twisted bullion. The outer border is also made up of sequins and twisted bullion threads. Surrounding trim in silver bullion embroidered in the shape of small fleur-de-lis. On the left side of the lapel, there are 4 scarlet silk threads for attaching decorations (most likely the Cross of Saint Louis and the Order of the Lily).
Scarlet cuffs (height 9 cm). The straight cuffs are 5.5 cm wide and 15 cm high, featuring the blue broadcloth color on the upper portion for 6 cm then transitioning to scarlet on the lower part for 8.5 cm. Each cuff is richly embroidered with 3 buttonholes similar to those on the lapel but shortened to 8.2 cm, also adorned with identical uniform buttons as those on the lapel.
Scarlet collar (height 9 cm) with embroidery matching the lapel buttonholes on the upper part and in the center, at the front and on each side, there is a buttonhole identical to those on the lapel but without a uniform button and measuring 11.5 cm in length.
2 false rear pockets in royal blue cloth, each embroidered with 3 false buttonholes (similar to those on the lapel) measuring 5.5 cm in height and 11.5 cm in length. Scarlet serge pocket lining. Below each pocket, 3 uniform buttons of the Garde du Corps du Roi model (identical to the buttons on the lapel) measuring 2.5 cm in diameter are sewn on. Similarly decorated patch on each side.
On each side of the uniform at hip level, 3 identical false horizontal buttonholes to those on the lapel are embroidered; the top one is 4.8 cm high, the middle one is 14 cm long, and the bottom one is 10 cm.
Tailed coat with scarlet cloth revers edged with an embroidered trim matching the buttonholes. In each lower corner, a fleur-de-lis is directly embroidered on the outer side of the coat, and on the inner side, a radiant Sun with the central face of the sun in embossed silver.
Shoulder strap loops in scarlet cloth embroidered with silver thread, bullion, and sequins in a garland pattern (1.2 cm wide, length 8 cm). At the same level as the shoulder near the collar, an original plain silver-plated copper button (diameter 1.04 cm) is sewn to fasten the shoulder loop; on one of the shoulders, a second uniform button of the Garde du Corps model is sewn to attach the aiguillettes.
Scarlet serge and beige canvas inner lining.
France.
Restoration period.
Good condition, some repairs to the cloth and embroidery.
NOTE:
The Garde du Corps du Roi uniform is usually decorated with silver braid rather than embroidery as seen on the uniform presented today, which indicates a higher-ranking uniform corresponding to an officer of the Garde du Corps du Roi, likely a lieutenant or squadron commander.
