FIREFIGHTER'S HELMET FROM THE CITY OF CIRFONTAINES, type 1852, Second Empire. 24511
Made entirely of brass. The base of the helmet is stamped in relief at the front and back. The visor, which can be moved, is stamped in relief with two crossed axes tied together by a ribbon. The neck guard is encircled by a bent strip overlapping its outer edge. The crest with flaps is stamped with twelve ridges and a mask adorned with a flaming bomb. The brass frontal plate, model 1852, is stamped with an uncrowned imperial eagle holding in its talons the lightning bolt of Jupiter, all set against a background of flag bundles and oak and laurel branches. At the bottom, there is a ribbon with the inscription "DEVOUEMENT Srs POMPIERS DE CIRFONTAINES" (Dedication to the Firefighters of Cirfontaines). The brass chinstraps consist of two round rosettes stamped with raised ridges, and two chin pieces in brass stamped with scalloped scales. The plume holder is square with a decreasing section towards the bottom.
