FIREFIGHTER'S CAP, or TIN FIRE HELMET, Second Empire. 24502
Tin-plated iron firefighter's cap covered with black varnish, consisting of a semi-spherical crown and a straight headband. Riveted visor and neck cover. Front plate in oval shape made of stamped brass depicting two crossed axes surmounted by a flaming bomb with a pyre at the bottom, all framed by an oak branch and a laurel branch. Each chinstrap composed of a leather chin strap covered with a relief-stamped brass plaque of scalloped scales held to the bomb by a rosette stamped with gadroons.

Fairly good condition, bomb repainted in the past, missing the inner liner.
NOTE:
These helmets first appeared under the July Monarchy and were still being presented in suppliers' catalogs in the 1900s.
