KNIGHT INSIGNIA OF THE ORDER OF THE IRON CROWN, KINGDOM OF ITALY, 1805 MODEL, MADE BY RETOUR DES CENDRES. 30273

Silver insignia, enameled, second type, depicting the imperial eagle facing to the left surmounting the Iron Crown in two parts enameled light blue, with pommeled tips; crown adorned with a medallion in chiseled gold featuring the profile of the Emperor to the right, with the Italian inscription "DIO ME LA DIEDE / GUA A CHI LA TOCCA" (GOD GAVE IT TO ME WOE TO HIM WHO TOUCHES IT); smooth ring.
Height 3.9 cm, width 2.3 cm.
Orange-yellow ribbon with green edging on each side (ribbon belonged to General Dupas).

Kingdom of Italy.
Retour des Cendres.

The Order of the Iron Crown is an honorary order founded on June 5, 1805 in Milan by Napoleon I acting as the King of the Kingdom of Italy, following the model of the Legion of Honor, "reward for services to the crown in the fields of military, administration, judiciary, literature, and arts."
