BIOGRAPHY:
Jean Pierre Antoine Rey, born on September 21, 1767, in Puylaurens, Tarn, and died on January 12, 1842, in the same town, was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire.
[...] From 1805 to 1807, he took part in the campaigns in Austria, Prussia, and Poland. With the 2nd division of the 4th corps of the Grande Armée, he was involved in the battle of Memmingen on October 15, 1805, and the battle of Austerlitz on December 2. He was appointed a commander of the Legion of Honor on December 25 of the same year. In 1806, Rey was at Jena on October 14, at the capture of Lübeck on November 7, at Pultusk on December 26, and at the battle of Eylau on February 8, 1807. He distinguished himself on June 10 at the battle of Heilsberg and the capture of Königsberg. Promoted to brigadier general on February 18, 1808, and knight of the Iron Crown on July 10 of the same year, he left for Spain on November 15, 1808, as commander of the 2nd brigade of the 4th corps tasked with escorting King Joseph from Bayonne to Madrid. He was created a baron of the Empire on May 28, 1809, before being wounded at the battle of Talavera on July 28 of the same year. On July 15, 1810, he killed 400 insurgents and captured Colonel Valdivia who commanded them. On July 31, 1811, he commanded an infantry brigade of the 2nd division of the 4th corps, and in December 1811, he took part in the siege of Tarifa. He distinguished himself on June 21, 1813, at the battle of Vitoria, and on July 28 and 30 at the battle of Sorauren. On November 10, 1813, following the death of General Conroux, he took command of the division and attended the battle of Orthez on February 27, 1814, then on April 10 at the battle of Toulouse.
