Round silver medal, engraved by Désiré-Albert Barre, featuring on the obverse the effigy of the Emperor bordered by the inscription "NAPOLEON III EMPEROR," surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath.
Reverse engraved with the inscription "MEXICAN EXPEDITION 1862 - 1863" and the names of battles "CUMBRES, CERRO-BORREGO, SAN-LORENZO, PUEBLA, MEXICO."
Diameter 3.1 cm.
White ribbon with a 5 mm red band and a 5 mm green band placed diagonally to form a cross, brooched in the center with a black eagle with outstretched wings, holding a green serpent in its beak and talons.
