Made of cardboard covered in taupe felt, H 17.5 cm, bordered at the top with a 3 cm-wide scarlet galloon, and at the bottom with a 2.5 cm-high black velvet bourdalou. Black varnished leather visor, green lacquered underneath, in a round shape. Tricolor metal cockade, 5 cm in diameter. Front plate made of silver-plated copper, embossed with a Gallic rooster standing on a globe and a trophy of flags, a fasces with the motto "FRENCH REPUBLIC". Plate height 12.5 cm, width 10.5 cm. Chinstraps composed of two leather chin straps covered in black velvet and a stamped iron plate embossed with a decreasing series of scalloped scales; each chin strap is attached to the shako by a round rosette stamped with a flaming grenade, with a double tab attached to the back that folds inside the shako. Interior lining in black waxed leather, felt lined in scarlet paper.
