SHAKO FROM THE IMPERIAL MILITARY SCHOOL OF SAINT-CYR, model 1855, Second Empire. 29934-1
Made of cardboard covered with sky blue cloth, with a height of 14 cm at the front and 20.5 cm at the back. It is bordered at the top with a 2 cm black woolen braid woven in a "cul-de-dé" pattern, and at the bottom with a 2.5 cm black varnished leather chinstrap. The top is adorned with a black varnished leather cap with a diameter of 12 cm. There is a black wool cord sewn vertically on each side and at the back. The brass plate, measuring 13 cm in height and 11 cm in width, is embossed with a crowned imperial eagle resting on a round bomb bearing the inscription "IMPÉRIALE MILITAIRE SCHOOL OF SAINT-CYR," and a Jupiter's thunderbolt. The top of the front plate aligns with the junction of the blue and white sections of the cockade, while the bottom rests on the lower seam of the black varnished leather visor, near the visor. The metal cockade is stamped with a tricolor painted sunburst, with a diameter of 5.2 cm. The black varnished leather visor is lacquered green underneath, round in shape, with a width of 5.5 cm. The golden brass chinstraps are each composed of a chinstrap stamped with twenty-six relief scales alternately bright and matte, mounted on black velvet-covered leather, attached to the shako by two 3 cm diameter rosettes, embossed with a relief grenade and bordered with a rim. At the end of the right chinstrap is a buckle, and at the end of the left one is a copper 'D'. The width of the chinstrap near the rosette is 2.8 cm, and at its end is 1.8 cm. The interior lining is sky blue silk, with the body lined with scarlet paper.
