Start of the Campaign of France. POSTER: FIRST PROCLAMATION ON FRENCH SOIL BY THE FELD-MARSHAL, PRINCE CHARLES DE SCHWARZENBERG*, the Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Armies during the Campaign of France. At the Headquarters of Lorrach, December 21, 1813. 18906-16

Poster printed in French/German on two columns. Measures 36 cm x 24 cm. A rare document.

"FRENCH!"
"Victory has led the Allied armies to your border. They will cross it. We do not make war on France, but we reject the yoke that your Government sought to impose on our countries [...] the strictest discipline will mark the passage and stay of the Allied armies. They are not driven by any spirit of vengeance; they do not seek to repay to France the countless sufferings with which France, for the past twenty years, has burdened its neighbors. Different principles and motives from those which led your armies to us guide the councils of the allied monarchs. Their glory will be to have brought about the swiftest end to Europe's misfortunes. The only conquest they aspire to is that of peace [...] We hope to find it before setting foot on French soil. We are going to seek it there."
"At the headquarters of Lörrach, December 21, 1813.
Marshal Prince de Schwarzenberg, Commander-in-Chief of the great Allied army".

In good condition, frayed edges on the right side due to folding, some foxing.
