MUSKETEER SWORD FROM THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSE, 2nd COMPANY, Black Musketeers, model 1814, Restoration. 30050
Silver-plated guard with three branches forming a medallion-shaped shell, adorned with the fleur-de-lis cross of the Musketeers on a radiant background. The knuckle guard is finished with a palmetto quillon decorated with a fleur-de-lis, bearing the marking "VERSAILLES" and stamped below with a "B" surmounted by a star of the controller P. BICK (December 1813 - September 1818) and the "B" hallmark within a laurel wreath of J.G. BICK, 1st class controller from 1812 to May 1815. Below the medallion, the guard forms a palmetto to support the medallion, and the two guard branches surrounding it are each terminated by a fleuron. Pommel with a short stamped tang. Grip in wood covered in gray shagreen and filigreed in copper.
Straight blade with double grooves and a tip in line with the back. The tang is stamped with a "B" in an oval topped with an inspector's star E.L BORSON (August 1814 - September 1816), a "B" in a circle surrounded by a laurel wreath corresponding to 1st class controller J.G. BICK (1812 - May 1815), and an "L" in a circle corresponding to the reviser F.L. LOBSTEIN, reviser (1813 to July 1821). Back of the blade engraved "Manufacture Royale du Klingenthal November 1814." Blade length 94.6 cm. Remaining red wool knot.
Leather scabbard with three silvered brass fittings ending in a bolster. Both the chape and the central band are stamped with "LB" and "B" under a star. Iron blade tip.
