Moving letter to his parents, addressed to "Monsieur OBLET, Teacher in Villers in the Soissons district of the Aisne department Villers-Cotterêts", postmark "BREST July 25, 1830".
Double sheet, H 23.5 cm x 18.3 cm.
First sheet fully illustrated with a soldier in uniform, next to a piece of artillery and posing on the shore in front of a warship anchored in the distance, all surrounded by garlands, and labelled with the author's name of the letter "OBLET FRANÇOIS".
Second sheet covered on the front with legible, medium-sized handwriting, with very approximate spelling. The soldier, stationed in Brest, writes to his parents living in Villers-Cotterêts: unable to join them as planned for a celebration (not specified), he sends them the attached drawing, as a true likeness of his outfit and uniform "... I am sending you, for your satisfaction, my costume and my resemblance. However, it is much redder than me...".
The letter is signed "Oblet".
