LETTER WITH WATERCOLOR DRAWING OF A LINE INFANTRY VOLTIGEUR SIGNED "ROMAN", circa 1815-1816. 18880-21
"I'm sending you the portrait as we are dressed; since we left, we have changed uniforms twice. Keep all these little things that I send you, as I'll be happy to see them again when I return. Our uniform is very handsome, I hope we won't change it anymore; and don't forget everything I ask of you for the last time. Sending you my embrace again through my portrait.
Roman."
The drawing depicts the line infantry voltigeur in uniform, full-length, with his sword over his shoulder (likely grenadier company).
A ribbon was added at the time to hang it up.
Dimensions: H 19.5 x 14.3 cm. 2 pages: drawing and text.
In fairly good condition, some folds, paper slightly yellowed.
* The mention of changing uniforms twice may suggest that this letter dates to the very beginning of the Second Restoration, after the Hundred Days in 1815.
