"My dearest father and mother,
I am writing this letter to inform you about my health. I can tell you that it is very good, thank God. I wish from the bottom of my heart that this letter may find you all in the same state, along with everyone at home. Father, I must inform you that I will be leaving tomorrow to go to Mainz and then onwards to Russia.
Please convey my regards to all my brothers, sisters, relatives, friends, and to all who ask about me.
Send my regards to (Prélandier?) and let him know that I will be traveling 300 leagues to rejoin the regiment.
I send this letter while embracing you both with all my heart, father and mother, and reminding you that I am and will always be your very humble and obedient son.
Signed: Pierre IZAR.
