ILLUSTRATED LETTER FROM THE IMPERIAL GUARD BY JEAN POUGET, soldier of the 13th Regiment of Tirailleurs and Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard in Courbevoie (October 4, 1812), TO HIS MOTHER in Gard at Valleraugue. 18880-7
Heading "IMPERIAL GUARD Grenadiers Tirailleurs", beautiful colored vignette representing a soldier surrounded by medallion portraits of Napoleon and Marie-Louise.
Letter addressed to his mother "Madame Widow Pouget of said Valleraugue canton of Valleraugue district of Vigant, department of Gard, At Valleraugue", postal mark of Neuilly.
Lovely "camp follower letter" about life in the barracks.
This young soldier of the 13th Regiment of Grenadiers and Tirailleurs of the Imperial Guard, 2nd Battalion 3rd Company at the Courbevoie barracks, is worried about his mother's health, not having received a response to his previous letters:
"Since I left, I have always behaved well in every way and am respected by all my comrades as well as my superiors. I am very happy because my fate has been such, if you see me in full uniform you would be very pleased [...]".
He is improving himself in "speaking well and especially in writing and keeping good company [...]".
She would be proud of him, so she must not be sad, as he is very content. All his comrades have gone to Russia, but he stayed with a boy from Nîmes. He asks her to send him money "because I have none at all ..".
