"November 3, 1809.
My dear father and my dear mother,
I am quite surprised by the silences you have in responding to my letter from last October 8, which I promptly wrote to you upon my safe arrival at the depot. I hope that upon receiving this letter, I will have some news. Hearing from you will bring me great joy [...]
I am sending you a certificate of presence at the unit which could certainly be useful for my brother if he were to join, and if my certificate is not valid, please let me know as soon as possible because we are about to depart any day now. [...]
Send my regards to my uncle and aunt, as well as to all relatives and friends who care about me. I send my greetings to Mrs. Durant, Mr. Arnaud and his wife. Please let me know in your letter, my dear father, if my cousin François will be leaving soon [...]
I conclude by sending you my heartfelt embrace, forever your son.
