Beautiful illustrated letter, with a header "Portrait of Jaques Chauvet, soldier in the Legion of Gard, 1st Battalion, 2nd Company," featuring a colored drawing of a soldier.
With the address to his father:
"Mr. Jean Chauvet known as Labbé in St Laurent d'Aigouze, Department of Gard, poste restante at Lunel, department of Hérault to be forwarded to St Laurent d'Aigouze." Remaining red wax seal and stamp "GRENOBLE."

"Grenoble, June 17, 1820.
My Dear Father,
I send you these few words to let you know about my health, which is very good, thank God, and I hope that my likeness also finds you well.
I ask you, dear father, to write to me a little more often than you have done so far. I have received news from my friends, but it's not the same as hearing from you directly, so my dear father, please respond as soon as you receive my letter and let me know how things are going back home, if you have taken on any new work. Please also tell me if Jean Barbuce is going to leave as mentioned in a letter, and if so, around what time he plans to leave [...]
The students who had left when the Duke of Angoulême passed by have all returned, and immediately we were on guard duty, all the places were filled with soldiers, fearing that the students might cause a commotion. The students all wore a crest and a bouquet of immortelles on the left arm in front of their coats to mourn the martyrs who died in Paris during the recent upheaval, reportedly up to eight hundred [...]
I finish my letter by sending you a heartfelt embrace and remain for life your dear and respectful son.
