Royal Corps of the Navy. SIGNED LETTER FROM D'HARCOURT ADDRESSED TO M. DE CAUX: DESERTION OF SERGEANT VASSE, 2nd Battalion of the Dillon Regiment, January 4, 1778. 18902-22
"Paris, January 4, 1778"
"I have received, Sir, along with your letter, the minutes of the declaration of the deserter named Mallet from the Second Battalion of the Dillon Regiment. It appears indeed that the named Fasse, sergeant of the Royal Corps of the Navy, encouraged him to desertion and facilitated means for him to enlist to serve in this Regiment; but as this Sergeant belongs to the navy, as well as the named Crevon, a grenadier of this Regiment who helped him make this commitment, I can only defer to the orders that M. the Prince de Montbarrey will see fit to issue for their punishment. I am writing to him for this purpose and I note that the named Passe, brother of the sergeant who seems to have dissuaded him from returning to his Battalion, and the individual who traded clothes with him for his uniform, also seem involved.
I have the honor to be, Sir, your very humble and very obedient servant."
Signed: Ml d'Harcourt.
