Signed letter from Marshal de Contades* addressed to Mr. du Sauzay, Major General of the French Guards.
"Strasbourg October 1, 1774.
I have the honor to inform you, Sir, that the Named Michel Westheimer, recruiting sergeant for the regiment of the French Guards having enlisted Mr. Aubrier, employee of the Royal Manufacture of white arms established in Alsace, I have ordered him, according to the memorandum and article 5 of the Royal letters patent, copies of which will be enclosed, to hand over the enlistment to this employee, and this is what he has just done, after being reimbursed for what he had paid as a deposit for said enlistment, as well as for all food expenses and other costs. I have provided this sergeant with a copy of the Royal letters patent, so that in the future he does not disturb or harass in any way the employees and workers of the said manufacture.
I take this opportunity to assure you of the perfect attachment with which I have the honor to be, Sir, your very humble and obedient servant."
