These four letters from J.B. LAGUÉ are addressed to Citizen MALARDEAUX (or MALARDO or MALARDAU), a notary in Marmande, Department of Lot & Garonne in Marmande. The soldier, serving as a replacement in the 2nd infantry regiment based in Cherbourg, is claiming what is due to him, providing updates on his health, and requesting news about his mother.

I am writing to inform you of the state of your health, which I hope is very good, thanks to God. If I have not written to you sooner, it is because I was on board at a port in the middle of the sea. Upon my return to the city, I wrote to you immediately. Please send me the baptismal name of Captain Lajugie de Garintaut, from whom I am also receiving ten écus [...]
A word for his mother "We are in a bad garrison where everything is outrageously priced. I sincerely greet you."

I am responding to your letter dated the first fructidor where you tell me that my mother is very alarmed thinking that I am wounded.

"Cherbourg, 21 pluviôse year 13 (February 10, 1805)
Lagué to Mr. Malardeaux.
"I am replying to your letter dated the 19 nivôse, and it was a pleasure to learn that you are in perfect health to my great relief. She is very good for now [...] I want to inform you that I have received the sum of 51 francs, which was deposited at the post office in Marinade addressed to you.
