ENLISTMENT FOR THE ARMY OF THE RHINE IN STRASBOURG.
I, the undersigned Jean Ste LECLERC, enlist of my own free will & without coercion, to serve the Nation under the orders of the King, Supreme Chief of the army, as a soldier for a period of three years, on the condition of receiving my absolute Discharge at the expiration of this term, in accordance with the Law, & in consideration of this Enlistment the sum of forty pounds in cash, & forty pounds in a promissory note payable to the Regiment.
I declare that I have no hidden infirmity, [...].
I certify that I am twenty-one years old, born in Chalons sur Marne, Municipality of Chalons, District of Chalons, Department of Marne, son of the late Etienne Charles Leclerc and the late Claudette Lamiraut.
Done at Troyes on the sixth of August 1792.
The soldier Leclerc marked his signature with a cross.
The second part of the document is dedicated to the description of the soldier Leclerc.
Document signed at the very end by the clerk Dubois.
