In black "flamand" felt, height at the front of the curved part 16 cm, height at the front from the bottom of the horns 23 cm, height at the back of the curved part 24 cm, height at the back from the bottom of the horns 30.5 cm, width between the horns 40 cm, depth 12 cm.
Tricolor wool passementerie cockade, diameter 9 cm. Three-strand gimp with two strands wrapping around the button creating a five-strand gimp. Gilt brass button, diameter 2.4 cm, depicting a marine anchor on a horizontally striped background. Each horn is adorned with a golden tassel. Inner cap composed of a 7 cm high black varnished leather headband, topped with a 6 cm black silk headband. At the bottom, a white label printed in black reads "AU CASTOR DEDELAY HATTER TO THE NAVY 48 ST CHARLES STREET ROCHEFORT".
