NOTE:
To our current knowledge, only six examples of this cap model are known, this one from the Luxembourg company, a second similar cap with piping, a cap (without piping) offered by us, and three examples in the collections of the Musée de l'Armée in Paris: one model 1814 (reference Gb3091), one model 1820 (reference Gb311), and one belonging to a senior officer (reference Gb310).
The distinction between the first cap model described in the 1814 regulations and the 1820 one is extremely subtle. We provide you with both original texts:
1814 Regulations:
"Ceremonial cap in blue cloth, without piping, model of the former French cavalry; the turban, embroidered with a 40 mm wide silver braid, with or without scallop according to rank (no scallop for guards, single scallop for brigadiers, double scallop for junior officers, triple scallop for senior officers), 180 mm high at the front, slightly notched; tail 560 mm long, folding into the turban with a silver embroidered sun on the front, 50 mm in diameter; a 60 mm high silver tassel at the end of the flame; silver thread cord on the four seams; lining with canvas from 11 November 1815."
August 16, 1820 Regulations:
"The ceremonial cap, in royal blue cloth, without piping, embroidered with a braid in the design of the corps, 41 mm wide, with or without scallop depending on rank; on the front of the turban, is a sun 40 mm in diameter, with a silver solid head and silver embroidered rays, 12 sequins and 12 cannetille; at the end of the flame, adorned on the seams with round silver loops, a tassel, also round, 60 mm high, decorated with simple fringes or braids, depending on rank, attached to the flame by a 40 mm long cord. The turban is 185 mm high at the front, 175 mm at the back, and 125 mm on the sides; a cut is made on the front, with the tips 40 mm apart. The flame, which will fold into the turban, is 596 mm long, measuring the height of the cap."
