DRAGOON SWORD, model 1768-1781, Ancient Monarchy, 29251
Mounting with half-basket hilt with three branches of flat iron, including the guard branch screwed to the pommel (they are made in two pieces: one piece forming the two guard branches and the second forming the oblique branch). Wood handle wrapped in black waxed calfskin with filigree iron. Pommel with a short tail. Straight blade with hollow edges and flat back measuring 97 cm long, engraved on the front side with the motto "LONG LIVE THE KING" and a floral decoration; on the back side, the radiant Sun surmounted by the arms of France with floral decoration framing the whole; back of the blade engraved with a long arrow, the signature of the Klingenthal manufacture. Scarlet cloth knot. Leather scabbard with two steel fittings decorated with lines, chape and central fitting cut into scallops, with steel rings and belt loops; a button for belt attachment is welded to the chape; brass drag (period but not the original model).
