BRIDLE BIT OF THE BODYGUARDS OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSEHOLD, 1814 model, Restoration period. 29278
Bridle bit of the so-called "pigeon-throat" shape. The cannons are almost straight, from the base of the branches to the heels, to ensure a more precise support on the bars. In its upper part, the branch forms a cheekpiece with a rectangular opening known as the "cheekpiece eye." Tinned copper bosses representing the face of the Sun on a radiant background framed by a beaded molding. The lower end, or the bottom of the branch, terminates in an inverted heart-shaped opening, commonly called "the gargoyle" (it is intended to secure the reins when their rings are broken). The underside of the gargoyle is drilled with a hole to receive the reins rollers fitted with their rings; the rear end of the gargoyle is drilled with a hole to attach a chain.
Entirely made of filed wrought iron.
