CZAPSKA TROUPE OF THE 5th LANCIERS REGIMENT, model 1858, Second Empire. 29392

Black polished leather shako made in one piece, assembled at the front with a seam of overlapping edges and large overcast stitches, height at the front 11 cm, height at the back 12.5 cm.
The shako is topped with a cardboard structure made of 14 sheets of wove paper, curled and made waterproof, covered with grey percale. The structure consists of four trapezoid pieces, 20 cm wide at the top and 9 cm at the bottom. The four pieces are assembled by their concavity and held together internally by a sturdy reed rod. The structure is topped with a square imperial piece measuring 20 cm on each side. The structure is covered with dark blue canvas, and all edges are decorated with a 3 mm wide scarlet wool braid. At its base, a 3.5 cm wide scarlet wool braid "cul de dé" is sewn. The front right side of the structure is adorned with a stamped metal cockade in the shape of a radiant tricolor sun, with a diameter of 4.3 cm. The corners of the structure are adorned with four brass fittings.
Black polished leather visor, lined with a 1.6 cm wide brass strip folded over the outer edge and fastened at both ends with a brass screw. The brass strip is marked with "563.5?" (last digit illegible).
Front brass plate stamped with a radiant sun design, semi-elliptical in shape, height 16 cm, width 23.5 cm. At the bottom, the number "5" is stamped on a plain background.
Brass chain in the form of a bracelet, 48 cm long, 1.3 cm wide, mounted on scarlet cloth. Stamped brass rosettes in the shape of a lion's head, height 4.7 cm, holding the suspension hook in its mouth.
Dark brown waxed basane inner cap cut into nine wolf teeth.
Total height of the shako 24 cm.
Half-spherical pompom in scarlet cord.
White wool racket cord composed of a cord ending in two fringed rackets.
