IMPERIAL GUARD CUIRASSIER BREASTPLATE, model 1854, Second Empire. 27937
Steel cuirass consisting of a backplate and a breastplate. Breastplate marked on the outer edge "200", bordered by 21 brass nails, with an unreadable internal mark; it features a hook for the aiguillette and a hook for holding the cartridge box tassel at the top. Marked on the outer edge "849" crossed out and re-marked "637". Internal marking "Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux & Cie 1855" "3T 1L No. 879".
Backplate marked on the outer edge "849" crossed out and re-marked "637", bordered by 39 brass nails, topped by two leather straps covered with intertwined brass chain mail with a steel lock ending in leather straps, and at the bottom a black varnished leather belt model 1862. Internal marking identical to that of the breastplate "... 1855" "3T 1L No. 879".
