Military medal, designed by Désiré Albert Barre, in silver, vermeil, and enamel. The obverse side features the Emperor's effigy, bordered by a blue enamel rim, with the inscription "LOUIS NAPOLÉON" and surrounded by a laurel leaf crown; the reverse side has a central medallion with the inscription "VALOUR AND DISCIPLINE," bordered by a blue enamel rim and the same laurel leaf crown on the reverse. Dimensions: Height 4.2 cm, width 2.4 cm.
Double-sided fixed loop attached to the medal, displaying a spread-winged eagle on a thunderbolt.
Ribbon made of yellow silk with two light green stripes.
