SWORD OF THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLD GUARDS, model 1814, Restoration period. Item no. 29810
Silver-plated brass hilt. One-branch guard decorated with an engraved fleur-de-lis at the crossguard, and with simple undulating fillets on the quillon and guard branch. Oval-shaped pommel engraved with a fleur-de-lis on its front face and with undulating fillets on the sides. Wooden handle entirely filigreed in copper with silver ferrules. Bivalve-shaped hilt with a molding of undulating fillets, the front part slightly bent downwards and the rear part upwards. The quillon represents a scallop shell. Triangular blade with acid-etched colichemarde style with the words "Sans peur / Sans Reproche" (Without Fear / Without Reproach) on a damask background, and on the back engraved with two fleur-de-lis flanking the inscription "King's Bodyguards." Blade length 86.5 cm. Crimson cloth knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with two silver-plated brass fittings decorated with fillets. Chape with button for carrying on the belt.
