FOOT GENDARME TROOP HELMET, model 1912, Third Republic. 29559-1R
The helmet, made in one piece of brass sheet metal, features three suction holes at the top and is stamped at the back with the manufacturer "B. FRANCK et SES FILS / AUBERVILLIER", "A".
The brass visor has a nickel silver rim folded over the outer edge.
The neck protector is identical to the visor.
The nickel silver headband is embossed with a flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves, adhering to the helmet.
Each chinstrap consists of 15 nickel silver scales, alternately cut with three or two scallops, decreasing in width from 3.4 cm at the top to 2.1 cm at the bottom.
The right chinstrap is equipped with a small nickel silver buckle at its end. At the end of the left chinstrap, there is a similar D-shaped nickel silver buckle adorned with a black varnished calf leather strap.
The top scale of each chinstrap is stamped "A", and embossed at its end with a circular rosette (diameter 4.9 cm) representing a lion's head framed by a triple beaded border.
The helmet is topped with a reconstructed nickel silver crest consisting of two fins and a nickel silver mask.
The fins are in the shape of a convex curvilinear triangle at the top, connecting to the helmet with a concave base forming a scalloped edge.
The fins are decorated with acanthus leaves, palmettes, and a molding depicting two laurel branches with a central palmette; the edge is ornamented with water leaves and secured to the helmet with two screws, all embossed in relief.
The mask is embossed with a relief head of Medusa.
The horsehair mane is black, cut in a brush style, 82 cm long, and 6 cm high. It is mounted on a sturdy cowhide sole.
The plume holder is square-section nickel silver, slightly tapered towards the bottom, with a height of 3.4 cm.
The interior fittings consist of a turban and a lining.
The black waxed leather lining is cut in seven wolf teeth.
