CAVALRY NATIONAL GUARD HELMET, MODEL 1814, Restoration period. Item no. 29490R
Helmet in two hot-molded parts made of fine black varnished leather with all fittings in silver-plated copper. Depth of the helmet 17 cm.
Front plate featuring a large oval shield in the center of which a fleur-de-lys is attached, the shield is topped with the royal crown and framed on each side by a palm, an oak branch, and a laurel branch. Height of the front plate at the front 14 cm. Fleur-de-lys height 5 cm, width 3.8 cm.
Back headband embossed in relief with oak branches, height 3.5 cm.
Leather visor, edged with a bent strip riding the outer edge. Visor width 6.5 cm, width of the bent strip 7 mm.
Neck guard in leather, width 3 cm.
Chin straps: chinstraps made of black velvet-lined leather covered with a series of 18 silver-plated brass scales, scalloped alternately in sequences of 4 or 3 scallops, one scale missing on the left chin strap, maximum width of the scale 5.6 cm, width of the scale at the end 1.6 cm (with a single scallop); rosettes in the shape of a radiant sun in the center of which a small fleur-de-lys is attached, also made of silver-plated copper, rosettes height 7 cm, width 8.3 cm, small fleur-de-lys height 2.8 cm, width 2.3 cm.
Plume holder tubular in shape with a square section slightly tapering downwards (missing tightening screw), height of the tubular part 4.7 cm, total height of the plume holder 5.9 cm. In the upper and lower parts, the plume holder widens and is attached to the helmet by means of two silver threads.
The crest with two fins measuring up to 14 cm in height, embossed with a series of 9 decreasing fluting towards the back, separated by acanthus leaves. At the front and lower part, relief moldings representing oak leaves and laurel leaves. The lower part is folded outwards, cut into scallops and fastened to the helmet with 4 screws on each fin. Mask 2.6 cm wide, 15 cm high, decorated at the bottom with two crossed palms fixed at the lower part by a screw.
Black horsehair tail extending 13 cm from the front of the crest.
Internal liner composed of a black waxed leather headband topped with a black silk headband.
