The army is suffering "... we see nothing but death, feet, hands or faces frozen, it's a calamity. As for me, I confess that I am tired and in need of rest. Tell the Emperor, I need a few months of tranquility among you, our children, my [...]. We will surely find a way to give a brother to Alexandre. I love you very much Élisabeth [...] Give a kiss to my children. [...]
I will tell you my dear that I have lost all my silverware, all my belongings, that I had to borrow to have the essentials. I have lost about 80,000 francs [...]"
